Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe take their ‘Les Misérables’ singing rivalry public (VIDEO)

There's nothing like a good ol' fashioned sing fight!

While audiences will have to wait a few more weeks to see "Les Misérables" stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in action as the wronged Jean Valjean and villainous Inspector Javert, the two actors gave an impromptu preview of director Tom Hooper's big screen musical over the weekend in New York City.

At an after party for the event "Russell Crowe and Alan Doyle present the Indoor Garden Party," Jackman and Crowe treated those in attendance to a slightly goofy (and perhaps slightly alcohol-fueled) performance of "The Confrontation," a ballad from the famous musical in which lifelong enemies Valjean and Javert sing in dueling counterpoint. Although the film will undoubtedly portray an intense encounter between the two characters, the song is a bit more fun here, as Valjean and Javert won't be winking and laughing with one another quite so much. While Jackman clearly has Crowe beat in the vocal department (Jackman a classically trained theatre actor, whereas Crowe is a rock singer), the pair of Australian actors both bring a lot of fire to their roles, whether it's in a New York pub or up on the big screen.

Set in post-revolutionary 19^th century France, "Les Misérables" follows former convict Jean Valjean (Jackman) as he attempts to make a new life for himself in a turbulent time, all while being pursued by the overzealous former prison guard and current police inspector Javert (Crowe). As seen in the clip below, Jackman and Crowe's on screen confrontations will not be nearly as cheery as their pub showdown.

The big budget musical co-stars Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Many expect the film, which was directed by "The King's Speech's" Tom Hooper, to be a Best Picture contender come awards season.

"Les Misérables" hits theatres on Dec. 25.
