‘Django Unchained’ clip: Django meets Leonardo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie

A new clip from Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Western revenge tale "Django Unchained" was released on Yahoo! this week. In the scene, Django (Jamie Foxx) -- a former slave who has turned to bounty hunting -- and his partner Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) meet with the depraved Calvin J. Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), a wealthy Southern cotton baron and the owner of Django's still enslaved wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).

The clip is cut from one of many tense scenes from Tarantino's latest, and it offers our first extended look at DiCaprio's character, who, until now, has only made brief appearances in trailers for the film.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies Canada, the "Pulp Fiction" director described DiCaprio's slavery-loving Candie as a "petulant boy emperor" in the vein of the debaucherous Roman ruler Caligula — only in "southern drag." That's certainly the impression we got of him from this latest clip. Yesterday, DiCaprio was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his villainous turn in the film.

In other "Django" news, Entertainment Weekly today posted the first look at the comic book adaptation of the film from Vertigo Comics.

The six-issue series, illustrated by R. M. Guéra and Jason Latour of "Scalped" fame, is based on Tarantino's original screenplay for the film. The director had to edit his film down to 2 hours and 45 minutes, but the "Django Unchained" comic book series will explore many of those elements and characters that were lost to the cutting room floor.

"Django Unchained" hits theatres on Dec. 25. Nothing says the holidays quite like six-shooters and revenge!
