This year's Oscars will feature a large-scale production number paying homage to the movie musical, according to reports. The number will focus on this year's Best Picture nominee “Les Miserables,” as well as 2002's “Chicago,” and 2006's “Dreamgirls.”

Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said, in a statement, “The musical as a motion picture genre has had a remarkable renaissance in the last decade.” Indeed, the three films highlighted were all big commercial hits, with “Chicago” winning multiple Oscars including Best Picture, and like “Dreamgirls” won a Best Supporting Actress statue for the performer of its showstopper musical number (Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Hudson).

Anne Hathaway, at the very least, seems primed to continue that trend of Best Supporting Actress winners. “Les Miserables” is nominated for eight Oscars total, which aside from Best Picture and Hathaway include Best Actor for Hugh Jackman as protagonist Jean Valjean.
