Naomi Osaka's second-round match at the Australian Open could not possibly have started in a worse way. Osaka strode to the sideline for the changeover, plopped herself down and draped a white towel over her head, blocking out all sights and leaving her with just her thoughts. This was not a match against some unknown opponent, someone Osaka knew for sure she could beat.

A woman managed to crawl under and pass through several newly-installed security barriers at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Serbia on January 8. She made it all the way to a Wizz Air flight bound for Malta but was finally stopped by flight attendants on the plane, who called security after the woman was unable to produce a passport or boarding pass. She had arrived in Belgrade from a deportation flight from France.

Greek PM nominates parliament speaker for presidential post
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis nominated parliament speaker Constantine Tassoulas from his centre-right New Democracy party for the Greek presidency on Wednesday. President Katerina Sakellaropoulou's five-year term expires in March and a parliamentary vote for the largely ceremonial post is expected on Jan. 25. To succeed her, a nominee needs the backing of at least 151 lawmakers in the 300-seat parliament.
