Black Smoke Billows From Fire at Construction Site in Washington

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire burning on the roof of a high-rise under construction in Washington on Thursday, September 16.

DC Fire said the fire was “confined to roofing material only” and the blaze was extinguished as of around 11:15 am local time. No injuries were reported.

The building, which is part of L’Enfant Plaza, is undergoing renovations to become the new headquarters of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), according to the agency.
