Twilight's Kellan Lutz has been cast alongside Black Lightning's Cress Williams in upcoming murder-mystery film What Remains.

According to Variety, Williams plays a pastor who is forced to confront his past when the man (played by Lutz) who murdered his wife returns to his small town, five years after the pastor forgave him for his crime.

Alongside the pastor's trials and tribulations, the town's sherrif (played by Chicago P.D.'s Anne Heche) is investigating a separate murder that could be connected.

The film is being written and directed by Nathan Scoggins, who wrote, directed and produced The Least of These and The Perfect Summer. X-Men and Hocus Pocus producer Ralph Winter and Chicago Fire's Korey Pollard are on board as executive producers.

Director Scoggins said, "I'm thrilled to be making this film in the [Texas] Panhandle. What Remains is very much in a Southern Gothic tradition, and the Panhandle provides that sense of mystery and epic drama, as well as the scope and scale to make this story truly cinematic."

Sean Doherty, founder and CEO of Sharpened Iron, who is also an executive producer, said, "We could not be more proud or overjoyed that What Remains is the first feature film from Sharpened Iron Studios. Nathan and the cast and crew are crafting a beautiful film about forgiveness and mercy."

Black Lightning ended earlier this year after a four-season run on The CW, and a spin-off titled Painkiller was not picked up by the network. At the time, Williams teased an Arrowverse crossover, but nothing has come to fruition as yet. At least it's left him plenty of time for exploring murder mysteries in Texas!

Production on What Remains is expected to wrap in the next few months.
