Bill Murray wore a perfect Ghostbusters t-shirt at the Chicago Cubs playoff game

Despite being right up there as one of the coolest individuals to ever walk planet earth Bill Murray is just like every other sports fan in the world.

So when his beloved Chicago Cubs finally began their World Series pursuit with a playoff encounter against the San Francisco Giants on Friday night Murray looked to show his support for the team by donning their colours.

But, as he’s Bill Murray, he did it in a preposterously cool manner, which also paid homage to his ‘Ghostbusters’ past.

English readers are probably going to need a little context. The Chicago Cubs have not won baseball’s highest prize, the World Series, since 1908. In fact, they’ve not even played in the World Series since 1945. According to most Cubs fans the reason for that is the Curse Of The Billy Goat.

Back in 1945, during game 4 of their best of 7 World Series match against the Detroit Tigers, the owner of the local Billy Goat Tavern Billy Sianis brought his pet goat to Wrigley Field.

Unfortunately the smell of the goat was so repugnant that Sianis was asked to leave the park. Outraged, Billy Sianis declared upon being thrown out, “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more.” Since then the Cubs have never played in the World Series.

Meanwhile, arguably Bill Murray’s most famous role came as Pete Venkman in 1984′s ‘Ghostbusters’, the catchphrase of which was, “I ain’t afraid of no ghost.” So you can see how the above image is a perfect marriage of the two.

It obviously worked a charm, too, because the Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 1-0 in Game 1 of the best-of-five series.
