Beyoncé’s Private Moment With Blue Ivy, Jay Z at the Super Bowl

The postgame verdict is in — and even non-sports fans agree that the true winner at Super Bowl 2016 on Sunday was … Beyoncé.

With her fiery performance, the singer upstaged halftime show headliner Coldplay in Santa Clara, Calif., according to fans as well as news reports including USA Today, which ruled that “there’s no question Beyoncé just stole that Super Bowl halftime show.” But before she performed, including a live debut of her just-released song, “Formation,” the mother made a point of sharing the experience with the stars in her life: daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay Z.

The artist gave her 63 million Facebook friends a behind-the-scenes peek of the special moment she shared with her 4-year-old and her husband, Shawn Carter, aka Jay Z, Sunday evening, with no explanation other than one symbol, a heart.

The proud mom, after all, has already explained that her daughter captured her heart — before she was even born. “I felt very maternal around eight months, and I thought I couldn’t become any more until I saw the baby,” she recalled to Vogue in 2013, adding that Blue’s birth in New York City in 2012 was “the best day of my life.”

Since then, sharing her experiences with the preschooler — whom Beyoncé’s pal and ex-wife of Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin, Gwyenth Paltrow, babysat during the performance — is a must, Beyoncé declared to Vogue. “She’s my road dog,” the Grammy winner said. “She’s my homey, my best friend.” And, at times, a co-star. Blue appears in her mom’s new #Formation video and has a cameo in the “7/11” video.

Paltrow, in fact, has revealed a recollection of visiting Beyoncé in the recording studio and seeing Blue right in the thick of it. “Blue was sleeping in her arms, across her body, and B was listening back to what she had been working on,” Paltrow told Vogue. “I thought, This is how you do it. You do what you love with who you love included.”

That goes for Jay Z too. The rapper has performed with his wife as well, sharing the stage for their 2014 On the Run tour and pairing up for the duet “Drunk in Love” in 2013.

“We have been together since I was 20 years old,” Beyoncé told Harper’s Bazaar about her husband before Blue was born. “We took our time and developed an unbreakable friendship before we got married.” With her solid family now, Beyoncé has proclaimed she has discovered that “life is so much more than … it’s not defined by any of this [wealth or fame]. … I feel like I have something that has grounded me.”

Her tour and performing schedules include intentional breaks to be with her daughter and husband, to go to museums and explore in order to “expose my family to beautiful things,” she has said. Not that the star wants Blue to do things only grown-ups do. “At some point it’s very important to me that my daughter is able to experience life and run through the sprinklers and have slumber parties and trust and live and do all the things that any child should be able to do,” Beyoncé explained. “School visits and lemonade stands and all that stuff. It’s very important for me.”

Having another child someday is important too. “When I was younger, there were moments where I said, ‘I’m not going to have children,’” Beyoncé has said. “And then moments when I wanted four. And now I definitely want another, but I don’t know when.” Until then, as Beyoncé told Good Morning America in 2013, “I just want to make sure that [Blue] can have a healthy, safe, normal life … she’s my priority,” adding, “I feel really, really just lucky that I can still do what I love and now have a way bigger meaning. And that’s to be her mother.”
