Beyoncé's Mom Tina Knowles Lawson Poses with Sanaa Lathan Almost a Year After Bitegate Scandal

It’s all love between Sanaa Lathan and Tina Knowles Lawson.

Almost a year after the infamous #WhoBitBeyoncé scandal that generated rumors linking Lathan to the singer, Beyoncé‘s mom posed with the actress at the 2019 Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California. The event honored Amandla Stenberg, KiKi Layne, Jenifer Lewis and Regina Hall.

Knowles Lawson, 65, looked elegant in a wide-legged black jumpsuit and statement necklaces, wearing her shoulder-length hair in curls. Lathan, 47, opted for a white dress with a V neckline and gold belt, her long dark hair hanging over her shoulders in braids.

“This gorgeous woman Sanaa Lathan @sanaalathan presented the award to her bestie The beautiful talented Regina Hall??,” Knowles Lawson captioned the event snapshot.

“Bitegate” first arose in March of last year, when actress Tiffany Haddish claimed an unnamed celebrity literally bit Beyoncé after Haddish formally met the pop star at a post-JAY-Z-concert party in December. “There was this actress there that’s just, like, doing the mostest,” the comedienne said before adding, “She bit Beyoncé in the face.”

She continued, “So Beyoncé stormed away, went up to JAY-Z and was like, ‘Jay! Come here! This bitch — ‘ and snatched him. They went to the back of the room. I was like, ‘What just happened?’ And Beyoncé’s friend walked up and was like, ‘Can you believe this bitch just bit Beyoncé?’ “

Haddish said shortly after during an Instagram Live session that she had signed an NDA and would never be naming names, but after months of speculation from celebs and social-media users alike, the Girls Trip star came forward in June to allege that the culprit was Lathan.

The latter repeatedly denied that she was behind the bite, addressing the rumors on Twitter and saying in her cover interview for Health‘s June issue, “I think it’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever been involved with.”

“Thank God I’ve been in this business for 20 years and have had so many rumors about me,” added The Twilight Zone star. “They used to devastate me in my 20s, but in order to survive in this business, you just have to let it roll.”

The “Formation” singer’s stepfather, Richard Lawson, opened up to PEOPLE Now in April of last year about the alleged incident, encouraging everyone to “drop it” and calling the rumors “a bunch of crap.”

“I think Tiffany just took advantage of a moment [and] tried to move the needle for her own thing,” Lawson opined. “There’s nothing to it.”
