Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” Trilogy 4K Ultra HD [Blu-ray]
A perfect gift for Zack Snyder fans, this movie box set includes “Man of Steel,” “Batman vs. Superman,” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” in 4K Ultra HD. The trilogy collection, featuring Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and more heroes on a mission to protect the world from catastrophe, won’t be released until September 7 but you can pre-order it now. The Blu-ray box set includes special film features, and collectibles posters.
“A Quiet Place Part II”
The sound-hunting monsters are back for another round of terror in “A Quiet Place II.” Written and directed by John Krasinski, the horror sequel centers around the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) facing the terrors of the outside world in their continued fight for survival in silence. Krasinski, Djimon Hounsou, and Cillian Murphy also appear in the film, which debuted in theaters in May and began streaming on Paramount+ last month. This isn’t a box set, but you can add “A Quiet Place” to your shopping cart and own both films in the franchise.
“Mare of Easttown: Complete Limited Series [DVD]
The HBO series, “Mare of Easttown,” is about a small town Pennsylvania detective (played by Kate Winslet) who is investigating the murder of a teen mom and trying to keep her personal life in order. You can pre-order a copy of the complete series, which will be released on DVD on September 14.
“Columbia Classics” 4K Ultra HD 6-Film Collection, Vol. 2
Due out Sept. 17, this limited-edition gift set features six classic films from Columbia Pictures: “Anatomy of a Murder,” “Oliver!,” “Taxi Driver,” “Stripes,” “Sense and Sensibility,” and the “Social Network.” The 14-disc set includes over 30 hours of special features comprised of rare archival materials and exciting new content, including anniversary reunions between cast and filmmakers, an extra disc featuring 20 acclaimed short films from the Columbia Pictures library, and an 80-page collectible book with rare photos and insightful history on the featured films.
Best of Warner Bros. 20 Film Collection: Best Pictures
You can’t beat the price of this collection of 20 different Best Picture winners currently in the Warner Bros. library, which came out between 1929 and 2006. Split into three different eras — 1929 to 1942 (“Gone With the Wind” and “Casablanca”); 1946 to 1959 (“An American in Paris,” “Around the World in 80 Days,” “Ben-Hur”); and 1975-2006 (“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Amadeus,” “The Departed”) — the films appear on 23 different discs and are accompanied by a 24-page booklet. “Game of Thrones” The Complete Seasons 1-8 (Collectors Edition) [Blu-ray]
Regardless of how the series ended, the HBO drama is the most awarded series in television history and this collector’s set includes all 73 episodes of the fantasy epic, plus 15 hours of bonus content and never-before-seen footage. The wooden packaging is especially gorgeous, with leather binding and individual disc sleeves that form a multi-layered collage, notes user CrazyLarry42, who also warns that the large size means it won’t really fit on a normal DVD shelf — but will make a great centerpiece in a display of its own.
Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema (Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]
We’re a ways from Black Friday, but just $150 for this massive, region-free Blu-ray set featuring Criterion’s comprehensive collection of Ingmar Bergman’s films is still a steal.
