Best restaurant for a date? This spot in South Carolina ranks among nation’s favorites

A South Carolina restaurant is strict about its Southern dishes — and ranks among the best places to go for a date.

Husk, in the tourist hot spot of Charleston, made a list of the nation’s top restaurants for a romantic night out, according to results shared Aug. 4.

To come up with the findings, the restaurant reservation website OpenTable said it studied more than 13 million U.S. reviews that users left on its site from June 2021 to May 2022. It also considered each restaurant’s score, which is “made up of unique data points, such as overall diner rating, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating.”

OpenTable, which partnered with the dating application Bumble to create the list, also searched for the word “romantic” within the reviews that made it onto its radar, results show.

Of the 100 restaurants that earned spots on the list, Husk was the only place in the Palmetto State. The eatery has a changing menu that has featured ham biscuits, fried catfish and other regional favorites.

“At Husk there are some rules about what can go on the plate,” the business wrote on its website. “If it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door.”

On OpenTable, several diners gave Husk high marks for its customer service and ambiance. The restaurant said it uses modern decor in its Victorian-era space on Queen Street, which fittingly intersects with the popular shopping thoroughfare of King Street.

Husk has other locations in Nashville, Tennessee, and Savannah, Georgia, but those spots didn’t receive nods from OpenTable.

Charleston-area restaurants are no stranger to being named among the best in the country.

Though several have been recognized so far this year, eateries near the city were snubbed from a recent list of the nation’s most romantic places to enjoy a meal. Instead, a Hilton Head Island bistro was the sole Palmetto State restaurant to land a spot in those rankings, McClatchy News reported in February.

This time around, OpenTable and Bumble didn’t only focus on top locations for a romantic date. The companies also considered the best places to meet with friends and business associates, though no South Carolina dining destinations ranked in those categories.
