Beacon seeks to fend off QXO's hostile takeover with poison pill
(Reuters) -Beacon Roofing Supply on Tuesday adopted a poison pill defense to prevent a $11 billion hostile takeover by billionaire entrepreneur Brad Jacobs through his company QXO. The defense strategy creates a roadblock for Jacobs' attempt to become a big player in building products distribution through QXO, which Jacobs created in 2023 by investing about $1 billion in a software company and renaming it. The poison pill makes Beacon, North America's top publicly traded distributor of roofing materials, more expensive and less attractive to acquire by giving special privileges to current shareholders.

Trump signs executive order to restrict transgender care access for people under 19
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order seeking to restrict gender-affirming care for people under the age of 19. The order would move to restrict medical institutions that receive federal funding from providing such care -- including puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and surgeries -- calling on the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to "take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children." The order also moves to exclude transgender-related coverage for young people from federal health insurance policies, including Department of Defense's TRICARE benefits, the Federal Employee Health Benefits and the Postal Service Health Benefits.

How Donald Trump and Project 2025 previewed the federal grant freeze
A White House order to freeze federal grants reflects a theory of presidential power that Donald Trump clearly endorsed during his 2024 campaign. The approach was further outlined in the Project 2025 governing treatise that candidate Trump furiously denied was a blueprint for his second administration. At face value, the Monday evening memo from Matthew Vaeth, acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, is meant to bring federal spending in line with Trump’s executive actions, notably on LGBTQ+ issues, civil rights, energy and environmental policy.

Trump offers all federal workers a buyout with 7 months' pay in effort to shrink size of government
The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it would begin subjecting all federal employees to “enhanced standards of suitability and conduct” and ominously warned of future downsizing, while offering buyouts to those who opt to leave their jobs by next week — an unprecedented move to shrink the U.S. government at breakneck speed. A memo from the Office of Personnel Management, the government’s human resources agency, was emailed to employees and says that those who leave their posts voluntarily will receive about seven months of salary. President Donald Trump has built a political career around promising to disrupt Washington, and vowed that his second administration would go far further in shaking up traditional political norms than his first did.
