A North Carolina burger joint loads its patties with cheese — and fans can’t get enough of them.
So much so, the Lexington-area restaurant now ranks as the state’s best place to get a cheeseburger, according to results published Sept. 1.
Nick’s Old Fashion Hamburger House topped the list after the review website Yelp studied comments that customers left between Jan. 1 and July 20. The website said it “ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning ‘cheeseburger.’”
Why do fans love the burgers?
On Yelp, some customers raved that the restaurant constructed burgers with well-cooked patties and oozing cheese. Others praised the meat-to-bun ratio and the toppings — which range from onions to jalapenos.
Nick’s, which earned more than four out of five stars, took to Facebook to bask in the No. 1 ranking from Yelp.
“Yelp is a big deal in our world and to have this recognition is huge,” the restaurant wrote Sept. 21. “We’re so excited and can’t thank everyone enough.”
Nick’s started in 2010 and got its name from one of its founders’ sons. The restaurant — about 15 miles south of Winston-Salem in Davidson County — said it’s passionate about providing “fresh, high quality food and supporting the local community.”
Though the restaurant is in an area known for its barbecue, it has made its mark by serving other fan favorites.
Among the items on its menu are a cheeseburger topped with pimento cheese and one that’s stacked with five patties. But for those looking for something else to eat, Nick’s has hot dogs, fries and other classics on its menu.
