Benicio Del Toro Confirms Star Wars 8 Talks

It looks as though Benicio Del Toro may be playing the ‘Star Wars 8’ villain after all… as the actor himself confirms that he’s in talks for the role.

During an interview with ETOnline, the 48-year-old actor revealed that the rumours are true – he has been in talks to star in the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ sequel.

“I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen,” he said. “It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited. I can’t talk too much about it.”

Of course, Del Toro was linked to the role of ‘Star Wars’ villain just last month by The Wrap… and judging by his response, it seems that those talks have been going rather well.

In fact, it looks as though Del Toro himself is convinced that it’s a done deal.

But who will this new villain be, and how will he fit into the story? Well, that remains a bit of a mystery… and may not be entirely clear to Del Toro, either.

“The script is hard to get,” he said. “They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it. I saw the original [Star Wars] when it came out and it marked me. I was impressed by the film and by the characters and by the story and the message.”

Of course, there’s still the small matter of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which hits cinemas in December… and I get the feeling we won’t get much in the way of ‘Star Wars 8’ information until this first instalment hits the big screen.

‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ will be written and directed by Rian Johnson, with ‘Star Wars VII’ star Oscar Isaac hinting that he will return for the sequel.

‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 26 May 2017.
