Benedict Cumberbatch interviewing Tom Hiddleston is as perfect as you’d hope

Of course Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston are old friends. Not only are they both English and impossibly genial, but they’re both preposterously talented thespians, too.

So when Interview Magazine needed someone to interview Hiddleston for their October issue, which he has adorned, they turned to Cumberbatch. And their discussion gave us some insight into their friendship, which is just as delightful as you’d hope.

But what did the duo talk about? Well, Cumberbatch at first made sure to point out that he wouldn’t be talking to Hiddleston about a certain blonde singer, who at the time of their discussion he was dating, and instead focused on Hiddleston’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Loki.

When asked about returning to play Loki four years after last doing so, Hiddleston admitted, “The best thing about it, honestly, is working with Chris [Hemsworth] again.”

“I first met him in Kenneth Branagh’s house in England in 2009. We were mere children, in the very beginning of our acting journeys. We made an instant connection, and it’s been extraordinary to share the ride with him – this mad journey with Marvel.”

Cumberbatch himself is set to lose his Marvel virginity when ‘Doctor Strange’ is finally released next month, and he admitted that the allure of starring as the Sorcerer Supreme was purely “about the part rather than everything else.” However he couldn’t help but remark to Hiddleston, “I’m also part of your crew!”

But the duo didn’t just chat about the MCU, as they revealed their favourite eras of cinema, and how the first met each other.

Hiddleston admitted that he first came across Cumberbatch when he starred in a production of Herik Ibsen’s play ‘Hedda Gabler’ as Tesma back in 2005.

This then provoked Cumberbach to speak of the first time he crossed paths with Hiddleston, as he recalled, “Because you were going off to do the first ‘Thor’ film, and I remember there was party. I won’t mention whose party it was, but anyways, point is that we just had a social meet-up and I was like, ‘God, this guy is flying!’ You’d just finished Othello, ‘I think.”
