After a protracted (sound of) silence, Ben Affleck has finally responded to the ‘Sad Affleck’ video, which went viral around the release of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ last year.

The video – which was based and edited from an interview our very own Tom Butler did with the movie’s stars for Yahoo Movies UK – found Affleck seeming to disappear into a deep funk while being asked about the negative critical response to the movie.

Here is the original, to refresh your memories…

As Affleck’s face was zoomed in upon, and Henry Cavill fielded the question, the strains of Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Sound of Silence’ appeared to capture the nature of Affleck’s expression perfectly.

Speaking to Radio 1’s Ali Plumb on his press rounds for latest movie ‘Live By Night’, Affleck was asked what making a massive budgeted beast the likes of ‘BvS’ taught him.

To which he replied promptly: “It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill, where I don’t say anything and they can lay Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it.

“That’s one thing I learned.”

But he also learned some other stuff.

“I learned a ton making that movie. I had not made a movie of that scale, I didn’t know what the technology was capable of doing nowadays. The last big blockbustery movie I made was ‘Armageddon’, which was in 1997,” he goes on.

“So the technology had really changed the way those movies were being made, and it was fascinating. I learned a tremendous amount.”

But obviously the most important thing was not to drift off when Henry Cavill’s talking. That really is key.
