Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sets new record for Jenna Ortega
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has opened with a bang, setting a new record for Jenna Ortega.
The hugely-anticipated sequel hit cinemas on Friday (September 6) and, according to Deadline, has already raked in an impressive $110 million at the US box office.
The sequel easily outperformed the 1988 original movie, which earned a lifetime total of $74.7 million. It also surpassed its own projections of $100 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice takes place three decades after the events of the first movie, and sees Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara all reprising their respective roles as Beetlejuice, Lydia and Delia Deetz.
Viewers are also introduced to Lydia's estranged teenage daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega. Following a sudden tragedy, the three Deetz women are forced to return to the ghost house in Winter River. However, chaos ensues once again when Astrid stumbles upon the iconic model in the attic.
The movie's substantial debut has marked a record for Ortega. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the biggest US opening for the actor, aside from her small role in Iron Man 3, which saw her play the Vice President's daughter.

The comedy horror is also the second-biggest opening for director Tim Burton, just after Alice in Wonderland's $116.1 million.
The long-awaited movie saw Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe and Danny DeVito join its cast. It currently holds a respectable 76% Rotten Tomatoes rating, falling slightly short of its predecessor's 83% score.
Digital Spy's review said: "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice could never aspire to replicate the innovative and unique spectacle that was Beetlejuice back in 1988, but it sure captures its deliciously eccentric sense of fun."
