BAYC’s mobile game gets ‘rugged’ by Apple ahead of early access release

The landmark mobile game from Bored Ape Yacht Club – ‘Apes vs Mutants’ – has been ‘rugged’ after its release was delayed following an unexpected takedown from Apple.

According to an announcement in the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) Discord channel, the “mobile game competition start has been delayed”, with the new start date “likely to be Tuesday at the earliest”.

“To put it short, our game got rugged by Apple. We have had the game previously approved for TestFlight for weeks without issue, and they have provided zero explanation for the cause of the takedown”, the project announced.

“We are working on a solution and will stay in touch with the community on the new expected start date/time for the game. Put away your redbulls for now. We’ll share more details as we can.”

The game, which features an array of prizes for winners of the competition, appears to be level-based where ape-holders can “go to the sewers and fight against Mutants”. The winner will most likely be decided by how many ‘stages’ a player can beat based on images and available information from BAYC.

‘Apes vs Mutants’ is exclusively for BAYC and ‘sister project’ Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) holders. In the game, holders can ‘level-up’ their apes to increase power and obtain “random and unique skills to help you defeat Mutants”.

BAYC has continued to build on its recent strength in NFT markets following a spate of celebrity endorsements alongside record sales and volume for the project. Ape collectors can now also buy a BAYC NFT on cryptocurrency exchange FTX’s native marketplace.
