Basketball court dispute leads to fatal shooting outside 24 Hour Fitness, CA cops say

One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting at a parking lot outside a 24 Hour Fitness that stemmed from a dispute on the basketball courts, California officials said.

The fight began “on or around the basketball courts” at a 24 Hour Fitness on Lone Tree Way in Brentwood early Wednesday, Aug. 11, according to the Brentwood Police Department. The dispute, which involved multiple people, “continued in the parking lot.”

“Surveillance footage from 24 Hour Fitness revealed at least two people pulled firearms and fired multiple shots, striking four, killing one,” Brentwood police said.

24 Hour Fitness did not immediately return McClatchy News’ request for comment.

Several people immediately fled the parking lot in multiple cars.

Police arrived to find a man in his 20s, who had been shot at least once, lying on the sidewalk, Brentwood police said.

Though police “performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived,” the man died there, officials said.

Two suspects were detained, but no arrests had been made as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to police. Officials do not have a motive for the shooting.

Brentwood police could not be reached late Thursday afternoon for more information.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 925-809-7797.

Brentwood is about 55 miles northeast of San Francisco.
