Barstow School tennis team makes history at Missouri high school state championships

The Barstow School wrapped up a triple crown in high school tennis this weekend, claiming the team, singles and doubles titles at the Missouri Class 2 championships.

Barstow, which moved up from Class 1 to Class 2 competition this season, beat Ladue Horton Watkins 5-0 in the team finals at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield on Saturday.

Atra Biria and Phoebe Martin each beat LDW counterparts 6-0, 6-0 in their respective singles matches. In doubles, those two teamed up to win 8-1. Also, Sarena Biria and Mary Colombo won 8-0, and Lianna Adams and Aishi Sethi prevailed 8-6.

The previous weekend, Sarena Biria beat Leiloni Payton of Lincoln Prep 6-0, 6-1 for the Class 2 singles championship, and Martin and Atra Biria beat fellow Barstow finalists Colombo and Adams 6-1, 6-0 for the doubles title.

In the Class 3 competition, Lee’s Summit West’s Aliya Rector and Leisana Rector defeated Elizabeth Choate and Isabella Hong of St. Joseph’s Academy 6-2, 6-0 for the doubles championship.
