Barnaby Joyce Hilariously Critiques Johnny Depp's Apology Video

The agriculture minister who threatened to euthanase Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Yorkshire terriers has offered his critique on the pair’s apology video.

Barnaby Joyce, now Australia’s deputy prime minister, said that the performance – which has gone viral – needed ‘more gusto’, adding that Depp would be unlikely to win an Academy Award for it.

The outspoken politician joined those ridiculing the couple over the forced apology, which has been mercilessly mocked online.

Comedian Ricky Gervais compared it to a hostage video, while others have deemed it Depp’s best performance on camera in years.

Speaking on Australia’s Sunrise programme, a giggling Joyce said: “I think he’s auditioning for 'The Godfather’.

“He’s very good a playing every other person except Johnny Depp. As far as me directing that atrocious movie, no, I could have done a little bit better than that.

Offering directorial notes, he added: “'Do it again, Johnny, do it with gusto, mate!’ Rise to the camera, old trout, rise to the camera’.”

Speaking to ABC News, he repeated his Godfather line, before inexplicably adding: “He’s going off like a frog in a sock.”

Heard avoided jail time yesterday, and was handed a fine and a good behaviour bond for providing false quarantine documents for their dogs Pistol and Boo on bringing them into Australia on a private jet last year.

Her lawyers said that she had been sleep deprived and had made a mistake while filling out the quarantine documents.

Following the ruling, Depp and Heard recorded the video apology.

“Australia is a wonderful island, a treasure trove of unique plants, animals and people,” says Heard.

A sombre Depp then adds: “Australians are just as unique, both warm and direct. If you disrespect Australian law, they will tell you firmly.

“Declare everything when you enter Australia.”

It was claimed by several sources that during the hearing, Heard had to elbow Depp awake.

The case, dubbed ‘The War on Terrier’, hit headlines across the world last year, while Depp was on the Gold Coast filming the latest movie in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, 'Dead Men Tell No Tales’.
