Here’s how bad it was for the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday: Patrick Mahomes didn’t do this

How bad was the Chiefs’ 27-3 loss at the Tennessee Titans on Sunday?

Let’s count the ways:

The team’s point total is the lowest in the Andy Reid era, which started in 2013. In the final game of the 2012 season, Kansas City lost to the Denver Broncos 38-3. Sunday marked their fewest points since then.

Their 27-0 halftime deficit was their biggest at an intermission since they trailed 29-0 midway through a 2016 road loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Patrick Mahomes didn’t throw a touchdown pass Sunday, either. It was the first time that’s happened (or, not happened) since the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the first time it’s happened in the regular season since a Week 5 victory against Jacksonville in 2019.

Mahomes had thrown at least one touchdown pass in 31 straight games, a Chiefs record, the NFL’s current longest streak, and the ninth-longest streak in NFL history.

“I look at this film and learn from it,” Mahomes said. “And try to come out better on Monday night.”

Ah yes, Monday night. Not this Monday, but a week from Monday, when the Chiefs play host to the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

The Chiefs dropped to 3-4 on Sunday. They haven’t lost more than four games in a season since they finished 10-6 in 2017.

Of course, the Chiefs still made the playoffs that season, and have an NFL-longest streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances, including two Super Bowls.

They’ll have to hope for some good fortune to keep that streak alive now.
