"All I have to say is that I'm heartbroken," said Adams, 31. "But we tried really hard and I still love him very much and I'm not sure what the future holds."
The "Men Tell All" episode of "The Bachelorette" is a time dedicated to rehashing drama from the nearly-completed season. Monday's episode dove back into Chris S.'s "not here for the right reasons" accusations, Jamie's turn from first one-on-one rose recipient to season villain, Rodney's heartbreaking exit and more.
But it was also an opportunity for the former Bachelorette to set the record straight on a rumor that's been looming for months, despite the fact that Adams and Clark ran the New York City Marathon together just weeks ago, where she thanked "Z, for running with me every step of the way."
Clark proposed in the Dec. 22 episode of "The Bachelorette" after Adams took over the season from Clare Crowley, who got engaged to Dale Moss after just a few episodes.
Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe served as co-hosts of "The Bachelorette" this year after longtime franchise host Chris Harrison stepped back and then exited over the summer following a controversy over racist comments.
"Tayshia, I want to talk to you about something: You're not wearing your engagement ring," Bristowe prompted her, showing support to an emotional Adams.
"I sadly do know how (tough) it is," Bristowe added. Before getting engaged to fellow "Bachelor" franchise alum Jason Tartick in May, Bristowe split with Shawn Booth from her 2015 season of "The Bachelorette" after three years together.
."We're here for you and we want you to be happy," Bristowe concluded. Adams tried to keep her composure as the co-hosts began an interview with fourth place runner-up Rodney, but walked off the stage in tears soon after.
"We're going to let Tayshia have a minute," Bristowe said as she cued a retrospective video of Rodney's time on the show.
"The Bachelorette" continues next Tuesday with star Michelle Young and her final three men before the 3-hour finale Dec. 21. The next season of "The Bachelor" starring Clayton Echard begins Jan. 3.
