Avengers Infinity War directors confirm which Marvel characters have the most screen time

The two Marvel characters with the most screen time in Avengers: Infinity War has been revealed by the film's directors.

Anthony and Joe Russo - the siblings behind the superhero sequel - stated that both Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be at the forefront of proceedings when the film's released next month.

Upon being asked the question by Fandango, Joe Russo stated that, while Thanos has merely been a lingering threat thus far, he's about to graduate to full-blown villain.

“He was a threat but he was not developed in any way up to this point. Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time in this film, in a lot of ways I would say it's his movie.”

He continued: “Our job when we make these films - and what we feel is important to us - is to surprise the audience. We wanted to tell a story that they weren't expecting, and the story is told from the point of view of a villain, which I think is also really unique and risky for a commercial film that will surprise the audience.”

In terms of the Avengers, fans should prepare themselves to see a lot of Hemsworth's Asgardian king.

“So I think Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time, and I think you'll find that Thor has a really interesting arc in the film,” Russo added. “He hasn't been at the forefront of other Avengers movies but he certainly has a very important role in this film. So I'll say, Thanos and Thor.”

The film will see Thor - last seen in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok - will collide with the Guardians of the Galaxy who will rub shoulders with characters including Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr) and Captain America (Chris Evans) for the first time.

As you well know by now, the sequel will serve as “the beginning of the end” of this particular phase of the MCU as Thanos hunt for the Infinity Stones (one of which is in Vision's head) switches up a gear, his rule over humanity inching ever closer to his grasp.

Thanos will be backed by the Black Order, a villainous group deemed more dangerous than their leader.

Avengers: Infinity War arrives in cinemas on April 27.
