In case you?re one of the few people who hasn?t yet seen Avengers: Age of Ultron, stop reading now to avoid a major spoiler.

Like the original Avengers, there?s a major character death in Avengers: Age of Ultron. But unlike the casualty in the original Avengers, the latest fatality won?t get a second act.

Quicksilver, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, died in surprising fashion during the extensive climactic battle, racing in at the last second to shield Hawkeye and a young boy from a hail of bullets but not quite fast enough to escape the barrage himself. Having died an ultimate hero, Marvel studio boss Kevin Feige is making sure Quicksilver stays that way.

A Reddit user posted his notes from a recent Q&A with the filmmakers of Ultron: ?Quicksilver is DEAD. 100% [sic], he?s not coming back any time soon, there are no plans. No LMD [life-model decoy], no escaping bullets, no retcon [changing a story after the fact]. [Feige] said he is dead and wanted to make sure people understood that.?

Feige?s statement comes a week after director Joss Whedon groused about Agent Phil Coulson being resurrected from his apparent demise in 2012?s The Avengers to star in the ABC spinoff Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Whedon, famous for killing off key characters in his other TV and movie projects, said that as far as he was concerned, Coulson no longer was alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ?The entire television series is just a fever dream,? said Whedon. ?It?s a Jacob?s Ladder moment.?

Watch Joss Whedon Explain ?Ultron? Death Scene:

One clue that the studio didn?t want us getting too attached to Quicksilver: He appears to be the least-represented Ultron character when it comes to all the toys and merchandise tied to the movie ? even less so than Black Widow or Scarlet Witch. Hasbro, for example, has yet to come out with any figures of the fast-footed hero (but there?s one of his twin sister, Scarlet Witch), while Mattel hasn?t released any Hot Wheels character cars based on him (but there is a Black Widow model). Perhaps another sign he was expendable: Quicksilver was also the biggest shill of the the superhero team, hawking the most products in the film itself.

In other words: Don?t expect Taylor-Johnson, or any version of Quicksilver, to show up in a Disney-Marvel movie anytime soon.
