Audits identified risks in BCPS network before ransomware cyberattack

Maryland state auditors found significant risks within the Baltimore County Public Schools' computer network. The Office of Legislative Audits released the findings just days before a ransomware cyberattack struck the district's network. Auditors said BCPS did not adequately secure sensitive personal information. The system had 26 publicly accessible servers and intrusion detection prevention system coverage did not exist for untrusted traffic.
