Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall sees an end to Women’s Champions League glory drought

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall believes it is "only a matter of time" before an English club wins the Women's Champions League again.

The Gunners are the only English side to have won the competition, in 2007. Arsenal and Chelsea are in the quarter-finals and Eidevall believes both have what it takes to go all the way.

Tonight, Arsenal host Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium, looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg. Chelsea, meanwhile, face holders Lyon at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, leading the tie 1-0.

"I think if you build things over here in England, it's only a matter of time before an English club wins the Champions League," said Eidevall. "I think both the English clubs in the competition this year have the potential to be able to do it.

"It's not like it has to be in the distant future, but time will definitely be in English clubs' favour as long as this progression continues."

Bayern are enjoying a brilliant season and are top of the Frauen-Bundesliga. They have lost once in 16 League games, conceding just four goals, but Eidevall has backed his players to defy the odds.

"I think we can beat any team on any given day," he said. "That is such a great feeling to have.

"We know it's going to be determined by small details, but this set of players could play any team in the world and I know we would have a chance of beating them. That is one of the greatest feelings to have because then you know that everything is possible."
