Lord Sugar made TV history in The Apprentice 2017 final tonight [December 17].

For the first time ever, he announced that instead of hiring just one candidate, he wanted to recruit both Sarah Lynn and James White.

But how do the competitive duo feel about sharing the crown they spent 12 weeks working for?

When Digital Spy caught up with the duo to talk about Lord Sugar's unexpected decision, they both gave their thoughts on the situation.

"It's strange because a couple of people have said it must be a little disappointing about sharing the win," Sarah said. "If it had been a split investment then it would have, but it wasn't. He chose to double his usual investment and that is a nice feeling.

"I didn't see this coming at all," Sarah admitted. "It's interesting because we talked as a group about this; the format is always the final five – we wondered if Lord Sugar would ever put more than five in the final, or even less.

"We talked about that but not in a million years did we think he would play with the format like this!"

James then admitted he was chuffed to be sharing his crown with Sarah but had hoped to be the only winner.

He explained: "I absolutely wasn't expecting both of us to win, I backed myself, so it was a massive shock when he announced that we were both going to be his business partner. A good shock though, I really am pleased for both of us, but I did not see it coming!

"I think if anything it probably brings more glory because people are going to be really interested to actually find out that we both won. Sarah is great so absolutely does not take the glory away, I am really happy for both of us!"

Under Lord Sugar's new rules, both Sarah and James will receive a £250,000 cash investment each along with a 50:50 business partnership with him.

But now the series has finished, don't expect to see either of them on TV again anytime soon.

"Absolutely not," Sarah laughed. "For me, there was one aim of coming on this show, which was getting Lord Sugar's investment."

Instead, she will be focusing on the expansion of her confectionery company, Sweets in the City, while James will be working on his cyber security company.

"I will be looking at how we can grow the business and as of January I'll be putting everything into practice," he added. "I think we are going to have a really exciting 2018.

"I'm going to take some time off over Christmas - it's been a really crazy year. I'm going to go and see my family in Canada, might do a bit of skiing and then come back fresh in January ready to hit the ground running."

Good luck, guys!
