Apple Daily Employees Thank Readers for Their Support After Announcing Closure

Employees of Apple Daily, Hong Kong’s largest pro-democracy newspaper, thanked the city’s people for their support at the paper’s headquarters on Wednesday, June 23, after its closure was announced.

Apple Daily said it had decided “to cease operation immediately after midnight” for its staff members’ safety, the BBC reported.

On June 17, police raided Apple Daily’s offices and arrested five directors under a national security law. According to Apple Daily, the homes of staff members were also raided.
