Here's Why Prince William's Birthday Had a Bittersweet Connection to Princess Diana

Prince William just celebrated a bittersweet milestone.

Yesterday, the prince turned 36 years old. Although we’d normally post a multi-photo shout-out on our Instagram Story to honor the momentous occasion, that all changed when Victoria Arbiter, a royal commentator, pointed out that this particular birthday has a heartbreaking connection to his late mother, Princess Diana.

She wrote, “I’m sure it’s not lost on William that today he turns the same age his mother was when she died. Many people who’ve lost a parent at a young age have said it’s a very odd feeling to reach that milestone.” Just let that sink in.

Prince William spent his 36th birthday at the official opening of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, a rehab facility for injured members of the armed forces.
