We couldn't really imagine anyone else in the role of Thor even if we wanted to, but for a brief few moments that's exactly what Chris Hemsworth did.

He might be the only one capable of wielding the God of Thunder's hammer now, but Chris has revealed that he almost passed on the opportunity for one kinda confusing reason.

Recalling the moment he was offered the role, Chris told the Sydney Morning Herald: "I remember the exact moment getting a call from from my lawyer and my manager saying 'You got the offer.'

"And then kind of going, 'Oh wow, cool. So what is it?' 'It's a superhero thing and it's a six-picture deal.'"

Revealing his inner commitment-phobe, Chris explained: "And we were like, 'That's a lot of films to sign up for. We should pass on this.'"

Fortunately, Chris realised that maybe that doubting voice inside him was "that voice inside you thinking it's too good to be true" and soon agreed to the commitment after all.

The rest, they say, is history.

And we reckon Chris and his team are feeling pretty pleased with their decision to go with Marvel too, as Thor's latest cinematic outing is being heralded as a huge success.

Not only is Thor: Ragnarok going down well with critics, it's also been awarded the highest accolade of the MCU's funniest movie yet – and in a world where Deadpool exists, that's good going.

You can find out just how funny Thor: Ragnarok is when it opens in cinemas on October 24 in the UK and November 3 in the US.
