Anya Taylor-Joy requested a key change in The Menu
Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she requested a change to a key scene from The Menu, with her suggestion making the final cut.
The 2022 black comedy focuses on Margot (Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) as they go on a date at an exclusive restaurant on a remote island, with the chef (Ralph Fiennes) revealing plenty of devilish surprises as the food is served.
The scene in question saw Taylor-Joy’s character discover that Chef Slowik intends to kill all the guests as part of a convoluted revenge plot, with her date Tyler knowing this fact before he invited her to the meal.

The script originally had Margot reacting to the news by shedding a single tear, but Taylor-Joy revealed she had other ideas, telling GQ that she suggested a new idea to director Mark Mylod after being underwhelmed with the initial concept.
“What planet are we living on? I was like, ‘Let me explain to you: I am going to leap across the table and try and literally kill him with my bare hands,’” she recalled, adding that both Mylod and Hoult were impressed with her suggestion.
Taylor-Joy will soon be seen back on the big screen as she stars in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, with the prequel focusing on the origins of the titular character, who was originally played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Ahead of the film’s release tomorrow (May 24), Chris Hemsworth praised Taylor-Joy in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, claiming that she brought a unique perspective to the character.

“She turned up in the mindset [with] the enthusiasm and passion to craft something that wasn't a kind of mimic, but was her own take on the character,” he said. "The two characters are in very different points of their life and one is mythologised and one is in the building of it.
“She was just incredible. I don't think there are many people on the planet that can tell that amount of story with that amount of depth, nuance and subtlety. She did an amazing job, made it her own. I really think in a beautiful way, the two performances complement each other so well.”
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is released in cinemas on May 24.
