Antonio Conte: It would be wrong to ban me over Thomas Tuchel clash

Antonio Conte believes it would be wrong to ban him from the touchline for Tottenham’s Premier League match against Wolves this Saturday, but conceded he will not fight a Football Association charge over his clash with Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel.

Conte said it would be "right" to escape a touchline ban despite the Italian's being charged with improper conduct for his controversial final-whistle spat with Tuchel, which saw the pair given red cards by referee Anthony Taylor after the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Conte was adamant his on-pitch spat with the German, which saw players and staff from both sides wade in to separate them, should not be treated as a serious offence.

"I hope so," Conte said on being asked whether he would be in the dugout for Saturday's lunchtime home game with Wolverhampton.

"It's right, it's right to stay in my place. For sure after this type of situation you can learn a lot but at the same time in many situations I was good to keep calm and didn't have an excessive reaction.

"I see that the FA gave us, both coaches, a more soft charge and we have to accept. We have to accept and have respect for every decision. But sometimes this type of situation can happen.

"It's not the first time, it won't be the last that two coaches are not (behaving) in the right way or do not agree. But the most important thing is we have to move on, to have respect for each other. And for me, the situation finishes there."

Conte and Tuchel had until the end of Thursday to make their pleas towards a breach of Rule E3.

If contested, they will appoint a three-man Independent Regulatory Commission to decide on any punishment.

Conte confirmed defender Cristian Romero would miss the Wolves game because of an injury picked up in the Chelsea match. The Argentine was lucky not to face a red card when he escaped any sanction for pulling the hair of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, but he will still miss this weekend’s fixture due to a fitness issue.

The problem was not serious however. "The player wanted to give his availability but in this type of situation, especially as we have a lot of games to play, it would be stupid to take a risk," Conte said.
