Ant-Man's Kathryn Newton talks Brie Larson's Marvel advice to her

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut for Kathryn Newton, who recently revealed the advice Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson gave her.

Newton's entry into the MCU has been a long time coming, following years of her star being on the rise through roles in projects like Supernatural, Big Little Lies, and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. She'd even previously auditioned for a different role in the comic-book movie franchise (although she's kept quiet on specifics).

One thing that has helped Newton deal with that wait is the advice Larson gave her.

Speaking to Variety earlier this week, Newton revealed what Larson told her about going for a Marvel movie role.

"I met Brie Larson one time, and I hope it's okay I'm saying it, but I looked at her and I'm like: 'Listen, I'm up for this Marvel role. This is really weird that I'm meeting you.' And she's like: 'If I can say anything to you, it’s be patient,'" Newton revealed.

She added that she waited for a while before she "got a random call" about the role of Cassie, the daughter of Scott Lang (aka Ant-Man), played by Paul Rudd.

"I just got a call one day and they were like: 'Hey, [the director] Peyton Reed wants to meet you for Ant-Man,'" Newton shared.

"And I was like: 'Oh my God. Okay, I’m ready.' I was just really ready. So I think timing is everything."

A week later, MCU producer Louis D'Esposito called Newton and said the Ant-Man 3 team wanted her to be their Cassie Lang.

"So, it just takes one person," Netwon added. "I don’t know who it was, but somebody said: 'It’s her turn.'

"And I've got to thank Brie Larson for telling me to keep patient because it was really good advice."

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has debuted to the biggest first-weekend box office of the trilogy — but also to one of the MCU's worst critical responses.
