Yahoo Movies Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania star defends MODOK reveal
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania spoilers follow.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is likely best described as divisive. The movie, which kicks off the MCU's Phase 5, has been met with less-than-stellar reviews and unwanted Marvel records.
However, it has also featured some of the biggest and most exciting moments in the current MCU and its future — including Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror and Corey Stoll's version of MODOK.
The MCU adapted the character to fit into their world and made Ant-Man villain Darren Cross (Stoll) this version of MODOK. However, not everyone is as enthusiastic about MODOK as others are. The reaction to the character has, again, been divisive — with some enjoying the wackiness of the character and others unable to take him seriously.

In an interview with Variety, Stoll talked about this reaction and how he thinks of this version of MODOK — one of Marvel's zaniest creations.
"I think these characters are very close to a lot of people’s hearts. Everybody’s trying to make this jump from a two-dimensional, static image on page to live action, and some things have to change," Stoll said.
"Jeff Loveness, who wrote the script, and Peyton [Reed, director] and Paul [Rudd] made a very strong choice to retcon — is that the word? — this new reason for MODOK to be. I think it really works. It certainly works in the context of Darren’s arc."

Stoll continued, "You know, the thing I always loved as a comic book fan was that there would be these radically different versions of the same characters."
"I was a big Batman fan growing up. Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns was this completely different character from Year One or whatever. You don’t have to like everyone equally. There is no definitive any of these characters."
MODOK, who featured in a Hulu series, is one of Marvel Comics' most ridiculous characters. The acronym name stands for Mental (0r mobile or mechanized) Organism Designed Only for Killing and has been featured as a camp villain in several comic runs.

The character died at the end of Ant-Man 3 but, as is always the case with the multiverse, he could come back as another variant. Stoll said he has no idea if MODOK will return but that he would always be down for the role again.
"I have no expectations, but I am game to play. If there is a great way to bring him back and he can continue to grow and bring smiles to people’s faces, I’d love to do it again."
