Another Panthers starting offensive lineman sidelined with injury

Carolina Panthers starting right guard John Miller suffered a low ankle sprain in Sunday’s Week 7 loss to the New York Giants, according to a league source.

He is expected to miss two to four weeks with the injury.

Coach Matt Rhule said Monday Miller could “potentially” go on the injured reserve.

Miller has started in six of the Panthers’ seven games this season and has played through a shoulder injury that limited him early in the year. He also missed the Panthers’ Week 1 game after testing positive for COVID-19.

Miller suffered the injury in the second half of Sunday’s game and was carted from the sideline back to the locker room.

The Panthers’ offensive line has dealt with a number of injuries this season. Starting left tackle Cameron Erving missed Sunday with an illness and continues to suffer from stingers in his neck.

Left guard Pat Elflein has a groin injury and suffered a setback two weeks ago. Rookie right guard Deonte Brown is on the injured reserve after suffering a lower body injury two weeks ago.

The Panthers have one of the worst offensive lines in football and Miller’s injury only complicates that. The Panthers allowed six sacks and 10 quarterback hits.

But trading for an offensive lineman has proven difficult. Few teams are willing to part ways with their linemen, while others teams are also seeking help at the position.
