Another Mickey Mouse horror movie has been confirmed
Disney mascot Mickey Mouse will terrorise a New York City river cruise in a new horror-comedy.
From director Steven LaMorte – the man behind blood-soaked The Grinch parody The Mean One – the currently untitled project is set to shoot in the spring and will introduce audiences to a murderous version of the iconic rodent with a taste for tourists.
This comes after 1928 animation Steamboat Willie entered the public domain, which paved the way for another horror movie based on Mickey Mouse known as Mickey's Mouse Trap.

"Steamboat Willie has brought joy to generations, but beneath that cheerful exterior lies a potential for pure, unhinged terror," LaMorte shared in a press release (via Variety).
"It's a project I've been dreaming of, and I can't wait to unleash this twisted take on this beloved character to the world."
He added: "It all comes from our love of these characters. Filmmakers — we're all kids in the sandbox. We love taking them and playing with them in different ways.
"It's not a desire to ruin these characters or make a quick buck, but to love them and honour them and show them in a new light."

As the House of Mouse retains control of the modern iterations of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, LaMorte's horror must stay within legal boundaries.
"We are doing our due diligence to make sure there's no question or confusion of what we're up to," he revealed.
"This is our version of a public domain character. It's a scary thrill ride with heart and humour, based on this character that everybody knows."
