Another Holland interception. And notes, highlights, injury news from Dolphins’ practice

The 15th practice of Dolphins training camp delivered plenty of no huddle drills, yet another interception from Jevon Holland, a deep ball from Tua Tagovailoa to Trent Sherfield for a touchdown and good work from running backs and receivers competing for backup jobs.

Highlights from Thursday’s session:

STARS OF THE DAY

▪ Tyreek Hill. He caught several passes, including a 30-yarder from Tagovailoa on a sideline pattern, beating Nik Needham, and snagged multiple catches in the 15-to-20-yard range.

▪ Jevon Holland: He picked off Tagovailoa for the third time in the past two days, on a poor decision by the quarterback. Holland has been the Dolphins’ best player in training camp.

Holland began Thursday wearing the orange jersey, honoring the player who had the best practice the previous day. It’s the third time Holland has been bestowed that honor — and certainly justified after he had two interceptions and a great breakup during Wednesday’s session. Holland makes a case to wear it every day.

PLAYS OF THE DAY

▪ Rookie receiver Braylon Sanders made a great deep ball catch, extending his arms over Elijah Hamilton on a well-thrown pass from Teddy Bridgewater in a play covering 43 yards.

▪ Holland’s pick. It was a pretty easy ball to catch and Holland snaked through traffic and took it more than 50 yards for a touchdown against listless offensive players. But it’s conceivable it could have gone for a pick-six in a real game.

▪ Safety Clayton Fejedelem stepped in front of a receiver to pick off a pass from Bridgewater.

▪ Linebacker Calvin Munson dived to the ground to make an interception — off a deflection — on a Skylar Thompson pass. Rookie receiver Eric Ezukanma ended up tipping the ball to Munson when Ezukanma unsuccessfully attempted to make the catch.

Each Dolphins quarterback threw one interception Thursday, but the Munson pick wasn’t Thompson’s fault.

NOTABLE

▪ For the second day in a row, Holland victimized Tagovailoa, who was fine aside from that one poor 20-yard throw that Holland intercepted.

His best throw of the day was a long TD pass to Sherfield, with Holland and Xavien Howard in coverage.

Tagovailoa completed two passes of 25-plus yards (to Hill and the Sherfield bomb) and nearly had another on a deep ball that went through Cedrick Wilson Jr.’s outstretched hands, with Jerome Baker in coverage. It was a catchable ball, but it would have had a somewhat high degree of difficulty because the pass was a tad long.

Tagovailoa also had two 15-yard passes to Wilson, another 15-yarder to Hill and a couple of 10-to-12-yard passes to Durham Smythe in hurry-up drills. Aside from the Holland pick, Tagovailoa was very good.

▪ Bridgewater threw the one pick but also made some nifty throws, including the deep ball to Sanders, a 20-yard completion to Sherfield and a 30-yard TD to River Cracraft.

▪ On that TD, Cracraft took a 12-yard pass from Bridgewater and took it another 18 yards for a score. Cracraft had at least three catches Thursday in his bid for the No. 6 wide receiver job.

Sanders — who made the great catch — and Mohamed Sanu (multiple receptions Thursday) also are making their case.

▪ Defensive tackle Benito Jones, who has come on strong this week, stuffed Myles Gaskin on a rushing attempt. Gaskin wiggled for a 4-yard touchdown in that red zone drill.

▪ Sony Michel had several runs for decent gains in one of his best days of training cap. He’s the front-runner for the No. 3 running back job, but nothing is guaranteed.

▪ Meanwhile, Salvon Ahmed was ubiquitous Thursday, catching passes and producing substantial yards after catch and gaining decent yardage on rushing attempts. He’s pushing hard for the No. 4 running back job.

▪ Hamilton knocked a pass from Preston Williams on a throw by Thompson. The ball appeared to be catchable. It hasn’t been a great week for Williams, who had two drops earlier in the week.

But Williams made a sideline catch from Bridgewater later in practice.

▪ Safety Brandon Jones had good coverage on Smythe on an incomplete throw by Tagovailoa in the corner of the end zone.

▪ Jason Sanders was perfect on five field goals, including a 50-yarder when everyone rushed on the field in a “time running out” drill.

▪ Deshaun Watson’s reported 11-game suspension means he will miss the Browns’ game at the Dolphins, which is Cleveland’s ninth game of the season.

▪ Williams, Wilson and Lynn Bowden all took returns.

AVAILABILITY REPORT

Jaylen Waddle, Greg Little, Brennan Scarlett and John Lovett remain sidelined with injuries. Waddle stretched before practice and the team has suggested his injury is minor. Little has missed more than a week, and Scarlett has been sidelined all week.

Also out Thursday: guard Solomon Kindley, who is dealing with a minor injury.

Safety Eric Rowe did not practice for a second consecutive day for undisclosed reasons. Left tackle Terron Armstead — who is in a maintenance program — was not spotted.
