Anna Kendrick's new movie debuts with 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating
Alice, Darling and Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick has made the jump from actress to director with her directorial debut — and it has gone very well so far.
Kendrick directs and stars in Woman of the Hour, which is a new movie about serial killer Rodney Alcala. Alcala was a murderer who was in the midst of a killing spree when he decided to take part — and subsequently win — the popular TV game show The Dating Game.
The movie has so far been very well received and has debuted to 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with multiple critics lauding the film.

Nick Schager of The Daily Beast wrote: "A true-crime thriller that also operates as a damning commentary on societal misogyny—especially in Hollywood—it’s as chillingly sharp and canny as its deranged fiend."
Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting explained: "Kendrick’s incisive vision, blending horror and humor with nonlinear storytelling, makes for an unshakable debut."
And Johnny Oleksinski of The New York Post observed: "Hollywood loves nothing more than a true-crime story about a serial killer, but a new movie directed by Anna Kendrick does a number on that familiar genre."

Kendrick previously starred in Alice, Darling. Last year, she explained that her experience in a previous abusive relationship helped her prepare for her role in that movie, which sees her character trying to escape an unhealthy relationship.
"I really related to Alice's obsessive mind. It’s this totally irrational hope that if I'm just a little bit better, I'll be safe. It's like having a pair of pliers on your heart," Kendrick said.
"That was a big part of my problem. 'Well he never hit me and I'm not really afraid that he's going to hit me. How do I discern between normal conflict and abuse?' I love that it really relied on Alice's experience rather than cataloguing evidence of the behaviour from Simon."
Woman of the Hour will be released by Signature Entertainment in the UK. A release date has yet to be confirmed.
