Another esteemed screen star has been added to the already impressive ensemble of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther.’

Angela Bassett will star alongside Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa – the sovereign defender of Wakanda, introduced in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ – as his mother Ramonda, the studio has announced.

The 58-year old screen veteran joins Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba in the hotly anticipated superhero movie from ‘Creed’ director Ryan Coogler.

Bassett is probably best known for her role as Tina Turner in ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It,’ although she has many respectable credits to her name including ‘Malcolm X’ and ‘Boyz N the Hood.’

She’s also no stranger to kick-ass action, notably in Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Strange Days,’ and more recently ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ and its sequel ‘London Has Fallen.’

Nor will ‘Black Panther’ be Bassett’s first foray into comic book movies, as she made an appearance in 2011’s ‘Green Lantern’ – although, much like her co-star Michael B Jordan (‘Fantastic Four’), the actress will surely be hoping this one turns out a bit better.

Set to go into production early 2017, ‘Black Panther’ will pounce on cinemas February 2018.
