Yahoo Movies Ana de Armas on Why It Took Her Nine Months to Get Marilyn Monroe's Voice Right
Knives Out's breakout star Ana de Armas couldn't really speak English when she moved to Los Angeles and started appearing in films like Knock Knock and War Dogs, learning her lines phonetically.
Obviously she managed to make it work, so you'd think only having to try and nail Marilyn Monroe's iconic voice for her role in upcoming biopic Blonde would be easy, right?
Apparently not, as the actress described it as a really rough time.
"I tried!" she told The Times. "It only took me nine months of dialect coaching, and practising, and some ADR (automated dialogue replacement) sessions. It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried.
"I had a lot of thoughts as a woman in the industry, and even in general, about how things from the Thirties, Forties, Fifties are so relatable to nowadays. And how if you don’t have a strong base, with your family and so on, it’s really hard to make it through – really hard."
While we are looking forward to her newest role, some fans have been going back to Knock Knock, the 2015 erotic thriller that the actress starred in alongside Keanu Reeves.
The film somehow became one of American Netflix's most-watched movies in early November of last year. We know new content is thin on the ground at the moment, but we're not sure why so many people gravitated specifically towards that one.
Blonde is due for release on Netflix in 2021.
