'America's Got Talent' contestant gives injury update: 'There is a long road to recovery'

Stuntman and "America's Got Talent: Extreme" contestant Jonathan Goodwin is giving a health update and thanks for an "(outpouring) of love" from his fans after his stunt injury.

Goodwin was hospitalized after an accident occurred while rehearsing his act last week, a spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY at the time. The famed escapist and daredevil posted a selfie of himself wrapped in bandages with burns on his face as he expressed gratitude for all the well wishes he has received.

"You can’t say you don’t get out what you put in. Ive tried my hardest over the years to be kind, thoughtful, honest supportive and good," Goodwin wrote in the caption. "A couple of days ago my life took a complete left turn… and the out pouring (sic) of love from all the corners of the world; from people I didn’t even think would know or remember me… has just been astonishing."

Without disclosing any injuries, Goodwin went on writing thank you messages to specific people including his fiancée and explained love was what protected him and allowed him to survive.

"To death I say nananana boo boo …," he wrote. "There is a long road to recovery and that won’t look like what it did…I may leave the daft (expletive) alone for a while, but I have a lot left to do in this world."

Goodwin's hospitalization led to "America's Got Talent" halting production of the show's spin-off, saying in a statement to USA TODAY they would "resume the last few days of filming at a later date."

The show's reps did not have any more updates Wednesday surrounding production resuming.

The self-proclaimed "greatest theatrical stunt performer" previously competed in Season 15 of "America's Got Talent" in 2020 and made headlines with his quarterfinals act.

In what judges called a "scary" act, Goodwin doused himself in oil and attempted to escape padlocks and shackles with his vision impaired in under 20 seconds while flames closed in on him. To raise the stakes, this was Goodwin's first time attempting the escape act.

He was later eliminated during the semifinals.
