All-American! Gamecocks forward Aliyah Boston named to AP’s preseason first team

Aliyah Boston is a preseason Associated Press All-American.

The Gamecocks’ forward received AP first-team All-American team honors Tuesday, ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Boston finished the 2020-21 season a unanimous postseason All-American and The Athletic’s National Player of the Year. She has won two Lisa Leslie Awards and has finished both of her seasons in Columbia as SEC Defensive Player of the Year and with first team All-SEC honors.

The junior has already placed her name in the South Carolina record books. She has the most career triple-doubles (2), second-most blocked shots in career SEC games (93), fifth-most blocked shots (167) and eighth-most double-doubles (30).

The preseason SEC Coaches poll was also released Tuesday and predicted South Carolina to win the conference. Boston and Zia Cooke were both named to the preseason All-SEC first team. Destanni Henderson was selected to the preseason All-SEC second team.

The AP preseason No. 1 Gamecocks begin the year with an exhibition against Benedict at Colonial Life Arena on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The season officially gets underway on the road at No. 5 N.C. State in Raleigh on Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. The top-five matchup will be on ESPN.
