Amber Heard Denies She Is Blackmailing Johnny Depp

Actress Amber Heard has refuted claims she is blackmailing soon-to-be ex husband Johnny Depp, after making claims that the ‘Pirates of the Carribbean’ star emotionally and physically abused her.

The denial from Heard, via her lawyers, was made following a guest column published on The Wrap written by Depp’s friend, comedian Doug Stanhope, which claimed the actress was “threatening to lie about him publicly”.

Heard’s lawyer, Peter Sample, told The Wrap that the “allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false,” adding that Stanhope’s claim “has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit.”

Sample also demanded that Stanhope’s article be retracted, claiming it to be defamatory. “It is highly offensive and disturbing that you would choose to publish it in the first place,” he said.

The Wrap hasn’t yet done so and says it will respond to the demand "through its legal counsel”.

In Stanhope’s column, the comedian - known to British audiences for his recurring appearances on Charlie Brooker’s BBC 'Wipe'series - claimed Depp told him that Heard was “threatening to lie about [the actor] publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms.“

Those terms being the terms of the divorce, which has yet to go through.

"Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified,” added Stanhope, before calling Heard an “manipulative a-hole”.

Heard filed for divorce on Monday 23 May, and on Friday 27 May was granted a restraining order against Depp after the domestic abuse allegations for made and Heard contacted police.

TMZ broke news of the abuse allegations, which also include an image of Heard with bruising around her eye - which she says was caused by Depp throwing a phone at her.
