While Black Friday is widely recognized as the last Friday in November, savvy shoppers should also take note of the Amazon equivalent that is Prime Day. Last year's shopping bonanza was delayed from its typical summertime date in July until October due to COVID-19 safety concerns, but the company has confirmed via a press release that Amazon Prime Day 2021 will happen "later in the second quarter," so customers can get a big head start on shopping some of the company's biggest price cuts of the year.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is an annual two-day event for members of Amazon's Prime subscription service, of which the company reports there are currently 200 million worldwide. Existing or new customers to the service, which costs costs $12.99 a month or $119 per year, will get access to top-rated products at jaw-dropping discounts. They'll also be able to stream movies and TV on Prime Video and read thousands of books on Prime Reading (among other perks). Those on the fence can even test the service out for a free 30-day trial.

As for the deals, they're some of Amazon's best: Last year's sale featured the best-selling Waterpik water flosser, for one, regularly priced at $69.99, for $39.93, which more than 72,000 customers adore for its effective cleansing and ease of use, as well as the iRobot Roomba i6+—an iteration of the best robot vacuum we've ever tried—which was marked down from its usual $795 to $599.99. That's the lowest price we'd ever seen!

When is Amazon Prime Day 2021?

While the specific date of this year's Prime Day has yet to be publicly released, the company said during its most recent earnings report the event will take place "later in the second quarter of 2021," which hints at sometime in June, but again, the shopping giant has yet to release the official dates.
