Yahoo Movies Amazon grocery stores coming to Sacramento area. How do the high-tech shops work?
Amazon Fresh grocery stores are coming to the Sacramento area, with one planned for Roseville and another in Elk Grove. They will be the first shops in the metro and Northern California.
The company already operates stores in Southern California and elsewhere in the U.S.
How does this high-tech shop work? Here’s what we know:
How Amazon Fresh works
You’ll find everything you typically find on a grocery run at an Amazon Fresh grocery store location, including a wide assortment of national and Amazon brand items and prepared food made fresh daily.
HOW TO SHOP
To enter the Amazon Fresh grocery Store, scan your Amazon app, Amazon One or your credit card linked to an Amazon account.
Grab an Amazon Dash Cart for small to medium-sized trips and skip the checkout line. No need to scan items as you load.
The cart uses a combination of computer vision algorithms and sensor fusion to identify items you put in the cart, according to the company. When a cart is available, use the QR code in the Amazon app to sign in and begin using the cart.
The cart includes a screen to access your Alexa shopping list to check items off your list and view your subtotal. Every cart also has a scanner to apply store coupons as you shop.
When you’re finished shopping, exit through the store’s Amazon Dash Cart lane and a receipt will be sent to your mobile device.
If you didn’t use an Amazon Dash Cart or if you prefer to checkout with a cashier, Amazon Fresh grocery store has that too.
Cash, SNAP EBT and credit and debit cards are accepted at the cashier checkout lines. And don’t forget your reusable bags.
ALEXA CAN HELP
To start a shopping list, simply tell Alexa what to add to your shopping list. You could also add items to your list by using Alexa in the Amazon app or by asking your Echo device.
Alexa will then categorize your items by department as you add them. And whenever you need your list, it’s available in the Alexa or Amazon app.
Once you’re in the store, go to an Alexa kiosk to ask where an item is located in the store.
ORDER AHEAD
Use the Order Ahead feature in the Amazon app and place your deli, meat, pizza and seafood order while you’re in the store or on your way.
Then shop while it’s being prepared. You’ll be notified when your items are ready for pickup at the service counter so no need to wait in line.
SAVE MONEY
You can earn 5% back when you use your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card or Amazon Prime store card at checkout.
Amazon Fresh also has a weekly savings email for additional deals.
ORDER GROCERIES ONLINE
Amazon Prime members can shop online and receive free, same-day delivery and pickup from an Amazon Fresh grocery store. Online orders are prepared by fresh associates in the store.
AMAZON ORDERS AND RETURNS
Amazon Fresh grocery store also offers in-store pickups and free returns for your Amazon packages. And you don’t need a box, label or tape for returns.
Here’s how it works:
Go to your Amazon account to start a return or start your Amazon return here.
Choose “Amazon” under “how will you mail your return?’” and select an Amazon Fresh store location.
Bring the item to the customer service desk.
Show the QR code from your return request confirmation email to a worker.
