Alyson Hannigan Celebrates 10th Anniversary of “How I Met Your Mother”'s Series Finale: 'Can't Believe It'
Hannigan, who played Lily Aldrin on the hit CBS show, marked the passing of a decade since the 'HIMYM' finale on Instagram
Somehow, it’s been a decade since fans got their last taste of the gaggle at MacLaren’s Pub.
On Tuesday, Alyson Hannigan shared a carousel of photos on Instagram with her How I Met Your Mother castmates, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel, as she marked 10 years since the hit show’s final episode aired.
“Truly can’t believe it has been 10 years now since the final episode 🥹,” Hannigan, 50, wrote in the caption.
Among the photos included in the post were a shot of the group from the show’s early seasons crowded into the back of a car, a photo of them seated in their signature booth at their favorite pub and a hilarious action shot of Harris and Radnor gearing up for a fight while Smulders, Segel and Hannigan looked on in awe.
The show, which was narrated by the late Bob Saget — who starred as Radnor's character, Ted Mosby, in the future — told the story of how Ted met the mother of his two children through flashbacks of his life in New York City with his close-knit friends, Robin (Smulders), Barney (Harris), Lily (Hannigan) and Marshall (Segel).

In the fall, Radnor, 49, marked a similarly awe-inspiring anniversary on Instagram as he commemorated the 18 years since the CBS show premiered.
“Look at those babies! Apparently ‘How I Met Your Mother’ premiered eighteen years ago (yesterday, I think)!!! How is that possible?? I am immensely grateful to have been part of a show that continues to mean so much to so many people,” he wrote in the caption. “It’s hard to fully appreciate something like that in the moment but all these years later I got nothing but love for that show and the people I made it with.”
He continued, “Thanks to everyone for continuing to watch it and quote it and remind me of the hilarity and depth of what we created. Means a lot. And Happy 18th HIMYM!!”
In the comments, Smulders, 41, shared her response to the anniversary, writing, “We WERE babies!!!!!! What a fantastic ride. ❤️xo.”

In 2020, Hannigan talked to PEOPLE about her time on the long-running series, which concluded after nine seasons in 2014. “It’s sort of just a montage of great memories,” she said. “That was just such a wonderful job to go to every day and the people were incredible and we just were silly and fun and got to do this incredible show. But it was just a blast. It really was.”
Last year, she and Radnor reunited for lunch and excited fans with a selfie from their day together, which Radnor said was "delightful."
"So sweet to reconnect and drop in and talk about all the things. And her tremendous sweater just added to the magnificence," he wrote in the caption. "Love this gal forever."
In 2022, the show was revisited with a spinoff titled How I Met Your Father. The Hilary Duff-led series ran for just two seasons before being canceled by Hulu in 2023, but it featured cameos from the original cast, including Harris and Smulders.
In Smulders’ cameo in the first season finale, she gave dating advice to Sophie (Duff) and also shared an update on her own love story, indicating that she eventually made it work with on-and-off-again love Ted Mosby (Radnor).
"If I've learned anything at all about love, it's that timing is everything," Robin said in the episode. "Sometimes, timing is a bitch."
