Alicia Silverstone Is Set for Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club

Yet another book is being turned into a major Hollywood production: Today Netflix announced that it has begun production on The Baby-Sitters Club, a live-action TV show based on the popular children’s book series by Ann M. Martin. It will star Clueless’s Alicia Silverstone, as well as Mark Feuerstein.

In the new Netflix adaptation, the plot will follow “the friendship and babysitting adventures” of five best friends—Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer—in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. Silverstone, who also recently starred in American Woman, will play Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, who is Thomas’s mother. Feuerstein, meanwhile, will play Silverstone’s love interest.

This new series will run for 10 episodes and is currently being shot in Vancouver. The Baby-Sitters Club originally launched as a four-book series back in 1986; it has since become one of the most successful children’s book series in publishing history, with more than 180 million copies printed to date, claimed the streaming platform’s release.

The project joins a slew of other upcoming book-to-screen adaptations—Where’d You Go, Bernadette, with Cate Blanchett this month, and The Goldfinch, in September with Nicole Kidman, being just a few.
