Alex Pettyfer has admitted to a bitter feud with Channing Tatum, his co-star in ‘Magic Mike’.

The Brit actor scored a role in the comedy drama - based on Tatum’s experiences being a stripper after leaving college - in 2012, but the pair did not get on.

Guesting on writer Bret Easton Ellis’s podcast, and when asked about the feud, he confirmed: “It’s true. Because Channing Tatum does not like me - and for many reasons, many being my own fault.”

Pettyfer also admitted that he went into the Steven Soderbergh-directed movie, after Tatum reportedly objected to his casting, with a reputation for being difficult.

It was reported at the time that Tatum had called Pettyfer, who got his break in 'Stormbreaker’ and then teen thriller 'I Am Number Four’, a 'diva’ and accused him of being 'a jerk for no reason’ on the set.

“I had a very negative past relating to the things that I had done on movies and the promotion of movies,” admitted Pettyfer.

“I was scared to speak… I actually did my work and I sat in the corner and listened to music because I had been told anything I did was wrong by my reps. I was very insecure as a human being.

“That also gave me a bad rep because everyone was like, 'Alex doesn’t speak because he thinks he’s better than everyone else’.

“That’s not true. I was just generally nervous and scared to be myself. I was in character.”

Things got much worse, however, when Pettyfer rented an apartment from a friend of Tatum, and then left without paying the rent.

Pettyfer said that he could not breathe in the apartment, due to allergies, and later left following the sudden death of his cousin.

Tatum then sent Pettyfer an angry email, demanding he pay his debts.

“All of a sudden, I got a very negative email from Channing - rightfully so - saying, 'Don’t f**k my friends. You owe money. Pay the f***ing money. Don’t be a clown’.

“And I really took that the wrong way, which I shouldn’t have, and emailed him back and said, 'I’m in a real negative headspace and can you respect me for a moment and blah, blah, blah’. And I just got hounded through this time of grieving for money.

“By the end of it, I just basically said, 'F**k them, what is money when life is so much more… I’m not paying. And I should have just paid. I think he was looking for an excuse to not like me.”

But he adds that his feud with Tatum has had positive affects.

“He’s a movie star. I made the poor decisions,” he said. “Channing was actually an incredible influence on me because after this whole situation happened - this was kind of the end of my immaturity and all my experiences put into one.

“And Steven Soderbergh was a huge part of that as well and I owe my life to that man.”

Next up Pettyfer will be in 'Elvis & Nixon’, a comedy-drama starring Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon, focussing on President Richard Nixon’s meeting with Elvis Presley in 1970.
