Alberta Premier Jason Kenney faces ‘perfect storm of issues’

The province of Alberta has been hit hard by the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic with the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in North America. The worsening situation prompted Premier Jason Kenney to impose additional restrictions this week in regions across the province, as well as increase fines for people breaking public health orders.

For much of the pandemic, Kenney has been emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility when it comes to fighting COVID-19. Sean Speer, fellow in residence at the Public Policy Forum, says that Kenney has been forced to realize that personal responsibility is not enough to address the crisis facing his province. On this episode of Crisis Management, Speer explains takes the audience through the unique situation facing the province of Alberta in its fight against COVID-19, and the challenge facing Kenney going forward.
